Most of your BFCM calendar is other people’s deadlines
Your BFCM calendar, worked backward from the dates carriers and ad platforms set for you. Cyber Monday is 30 days away.
Cyber Monday is 30 days from today.
The first Christmas shipping deadline is this Wednesday.
You set neither of those. That’s the catch with a BFCM calendar: most of it belongs to the post office, Google, your texting carrier and, this year, the midterms.
So don’t plan forward from today. Plan backward from them.

The dates nobody will move for you
Tuesday, Nov 3: the midterms. AdImpact’s June projection put this cycle at a record $11.6 billion in political ads, Reuters reported. How far that moves your CPMs, we can’t say, and we’d be wary of anyone who claims to.
So measure it. Write down Monday’s CPM and check it again a week later.

Wednesday, Nov 4: military mail. USPS lists this as the Ground Advantage send-by date for APO, FPO and DPO addresses, for delivery before Christmas. If you sell gifts, it belongs on your shipping page today.
Right now: your texting number. Klaviyo says toll-free verification takes about 2 to 5 business days, and you can’t send until it clears. Verified but never used? Klaviyo warns that carriers can quietly revert an idle number. Send a real text this week.
Monday, Nov 23: Google promotions. Google asks for promotions at least 24 hours ahead, on a weekday during business hours, and warns the process can take up to 72. Starting on Thanksgiving? Monday is your safe day.

Friday, Dec 4: Hanukkah begins. That’s four days after Cyber Monday, and USPS itself flags the early date. Ground Advantage runs 2 to 5 business days over the holidays, so some Cyber Monday orders will land late. Say so on the product page before a customer has to ask.

It costs more as well. USPS’s time-limited prices run from Oct 4 to Jan 17. A commercial Ground Advantage box goes up 40 to 55 cents at up to 3 pounds, and 65 cents to $1.05 from 4 to 10 pounds.
Quick math tonight. Multiply your expected November orders by that number. That’s the free shipping bill you didn’t budget for.
Don’t spend your best offer in week one
Adobe forecasts $47.5 billion for Cyber Week. That’s 17.3% of the season, in 5 of its 61 days.
Discounts climb to meet it.

Go to 30% on Nov 2 and you’ve got nowhere left to go on Nov 27.
The dates that are yours
Nobody sets these, so they slip. Here are ours:
- Fri, Nov 6: offer locked. Prices, discounts and margin, in one doc.
- Fri, Nov 13: freeze the store. No new theme, app or checkout change after this. If something has to ship first, that’s our day job.
- Mon, Nov 16: holiday ads on, at the latest. Meta’s advice, per Social Media Today, is to start early so the learning phase begins before the peak.
- Fri, Nov 20: phone test. Buy your own product on your phone, start to finish. Adobe expects mobile to reach 63% of spend from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. If checkout fights you, fix that first.
- Wed, Nov 25: everything queued. Emails, texts, discounts. Then go home.

What to do this week
- Add your cutoff dates to your shipping page. Start with military mail.
- Write down your CPM on Monday. Check it again on Nov 9.
- Send one real text from your SMS number. Confirm it lands.
- Recheck your free shipping threshold against the new rates.
- Pick your freeze date. Tell the whole team today.
You can’t move their dates. You can stop being surprised by them.
